Acorn Lawyers team raises over $12,000 for Vinnies CEO Sleepout

On Thursday 20th June nine team members from Acorn Lawyers braved cold and wet conditions to experience what it would be like to homeless during the annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout. Over the past 2 months Simone, Renae, Rachael, Monique, Skye, Kane, Anita, Mia and Chelsea reached out to family, friends and business partners to raise over $12,000.

The team joined a group of 39 Illawarra business leaders to raise a combined total of $129,474 for the local homeless community. The Acorn Lawyers team were awarded the Team Spirit Award for being the team who raised the most funds.

During the night, the group listened to touching stories from people who were once homeless about how St Vincent De Paul Society helped them to get back on track. It provided a first-hand perspective as to the need to have events such as the CEO Sleepout. The charity does incredible work to support those less fortunate.

The face of homelessness is changing and now sadly encompasses an increasing number of elderly men, women, families and children. Being homeless does necessarily mean living out of the street, it can include couch surfing and living out of a car.

44% of those experiencing homelessness are women, and more than 17,000 children in Australia under the age of 12 do not have a stable place to call home.
