Joseph Pokoney

Joseph is admitted to the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia as a legal practitioner.

Working closely with senior lawyers as well as independently, Joseph has gained in-depth experience in commercial and civil litigation, estate litigation, criminal and traffic law, family law and other dispute resolution areas. Joseph regularly appears before the Local, District and Supreme Court in New South Wales as well as a number of Tribunals and other forums. Joseph also manages litigation matters interstate and has appeared for mediation in Victoria.

Joseph has undertaken high-profile prosecutions on behalf of Government bodies and appears as an agent on behalf of other practitioners, local and interstate.

Joseph also leads Acorn Lawyers Knowledge Management Team.

Experience

Prior to joining Acorn Lawyers, Joseph gained valuable experience in criminal law during his internship within the Aboriginal Legal Service ACT/NSW. This experience assisted Joseph to cultivate his client-focused attitude to legal practice and has provided him with a foundation for providing efficient, low-cost advocacy tailored to suit the needs of a wide spectrum of clientele.

Since joining Acorn Lawyers Dispute Resolution practice group, Joseph has gained experience acting for large corporate clients to private individuals in a variety of commercial, civil, criminal and family law contexts. His notable recent experience includes:

  • representing corporate clients in contested Supreme Court applications to set aside creditors statutory demands
  • representing clients in contested multi-million dollar litigation
  • appearing before the District Court of NSW to secure contractual damages
  • successfully defending clients against criminal charges
  • appearing in contested building disputes including NCAT
  • appearing as an agent in prosecutions for government departments including Department of Housing
  • representing clients in contested family law proceedings in the Federal Circuit Court
  • representing a corporate client in mediation interstate
